The Magna Carta sold at Sotheby's on December 18 2007 for $21.3 million in one of the most publicized sales in history. This 111 page hard cover catalog gives the history and provenance of this particular copy of the Magna Carta (1297), which was owned by Ross Perot's foundation and displayed in the Washington National Archives prior to the sale and again after it was purchased. The reasons this particular copy is so important are outlined in the catalog. There are fabulous color photos throughout and personal and political historical information about the original event and subsequent historical significance. Lovely history of King John, Henry III, etc. There is an absentee bidding form in the back, but of course we are too late. Oversized, hardbound in green cloth with gilt titles.
