M529. Bailey [1864-1931] was a critic, lecturer, a chairman of the National Trust, and a deputy editor of the Literary Review. These are the original 7 introductions to the Georgian edition of Jane Austen's novels that the author wrote in 1927. Seven were published in the edition - Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park, Emma, Northanger Abbey, Persuasion, and Lady Susan with The Watsons.
The last introduction is expanded to include his reviews of Love and Freindship and Sanditon, which were not included in the books. Plus the author adds new material: a short study of Jane Austen's Letters and biographical information. Very Good concition. Book is Oxford blue with a paper label to the spine with a small flaw (spare tipped in back of book is perfect). Very clean copy. Oxford University Press. London: Humphrey Milford. 1931 First Edition. 147 pages, Hb. USED. $50.00
