She is most famous today for introducing the early form of smallpox vaccine to Britain, which she had witnessed while living in the Ottoman Empire with her husband, and for her letters from Turkey. She corresponded with many important figures of her time, wrote poetry and essays, and argued for the high moral character of Islam. She inspired other women of her country to pursue writing about their travels, with their different abilities to access women's worlds, and different interests from men who wrote all the travelogues of the time.
