Martineau (1802-1876) is considered the first female sociologist. Famous for her lifelong commitment to abolition and women's education, she also published on economic systems and social ills. She wrote two novels, one being a fictional rendering of the life of Haitian leader Toussaint L'Ouverture. Miller wrote this biographical and critical sketch drawn from a variety of sources, including Martineau's autobiography of 1855. Very Good condition, clean and tight. No jacket.
