De Corde & Mente. Sense & Sensibility, as translated from Georgian English into Augustan prose by James Rumford.
SKU: 17338
The translator, James Rumford, explains his methods in the introduction. He studies several sources to inspire his choices in translating, especially those who translated from classical Roman texts to English. Interestingly, he had for inspiration a contemporary of Austen's, William Melmoth [c. 1710 -1799] who translated Pliny the Younger's letters in 1746. By studying how people of Austen's time interpreted these Roman texts, he formed a foundation for how he chose to translate her language to Latin. 270 pages. Manoa Press.
