The Equivocal Virtue: Mrs. Oliphant and the Victorian Literary Market Place.
SKU: 10376
Mrs Oliphant [1828-1897] wrote prodigiously. She was a novelist, biography, critic, travel writer, literary historian, author of more than 100 published books and of magazine pieces that might add up to 100 more, and is among the least known of once eminent Victorian women of letters. her "Equivocal virtue" was her work ethic. To flesh out her posthumously published Autobriography, the Colbys studied her unpublished as well as her published words. Her personal history is sometimes sad, if not tragic. First edition, one copy sigend by authors. Archon Books. 1966. Hb, Dj. USED. $20.00
